The Knock, Roscrea branch of the well known Brophy clan took place in Roscrea during the weekend of the 16th to the 18th of August.
The launch was a successful occasion attended by family and friends in Roscrea Library.
The proceedings took place in a relaxed environment and to the background music of the Brophy Brothers Ceili Band. This recording for a 1970s Ceili House programmme on Radio Eireann was enjoyed by those in attendance as they viewed a presentation of photographs dealing with the musical travels of the band and its members.
The songwriter and poet Mai O’Higgins was identified as one of the people in a photograph from a shot taken in Dungarvan in 1957. Another photograph taken of Pat Brophy and his son Michael shows them playing their uilleann pipes in their home in Crumlin, Dublin, with the a visiting piper thought to be one of the Doherty’s. The Borrisokane connection in another photography showed a young Brendan Hogan complete with accordion joining the Brophy’s for a few tunes.
