A Tipperary father has gone 50 hours without sleep to protect his daughter who is currently protesting outside the Dáil.

Cara Darmody, from Ardfinnan in Tipperary, began her 50-hour long protest outside the Dáil at 10am on Tuesday of this week.

In a social media post made this morning Cara praised her father for watching over her during her protest.

"Good morning everyone!! Just awake after a few hours sleep!! It's 6 degrees here, so Dad is absolutely frozen from standing outside all night, and he's now 50 hours with no sleep - THANK YOU TO THE GREATEST DAD IN THE WORLD!!!

"Now l must pull myself together as I'm on Tipp FM radio at 9.05am!! The finish line is in sight, yippee!!!!" said Cara.

She has also caught the attention of many notable politicians during the week, who are now speaking out about the change that needs to be done in regards to the assessments of needs law.

Tipperary TD Seamus Healy recently commented on the need for something to be done about the long waiting list times that children are waiting to be assessed in Ireland. 

"Some 15,296 children are on the waiting lists, up 8% from the end of last year. In the first quarter of the year, only 7% were assessed within the time limit.

"The HSE stated there will be 25,000 children on the list at the end of this year and the average waiting time will be more than two years. These figures are shocking. Children are being failed every hour of every day" said Healy.
