News that former Dairygold site will be used for social housing in Tipperary is welcomed

A social housing development in Tipperary has been given the go-ahead after an agreement was reached recently between the County Council and a local community council group.

Independent councillor John O’Heney welcomed the good news that the former Dairygold site in Hollyford will have five social housing units built on the premises.

The councillor made the comments during the Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel MD on Monday July 28.

“I’d just like to pass on my appreciation to everyone in the housing department for the very satisfactory resolution to the housing issue in Hollyford, the community council are happy to say there are three three-bedroom houses and two single bed houses built in the village, which is fantastic for such a rural setting, it’s something that’s been advocated for for quite a while up there, I’d just like to say thank you to a very satisfactory resolution to that,” Cllr O’Heney said.

Independent Cllr Liam Browne also welcomed the news of the resolution. “I’m absolutely delighted to see that they’ve come to a resolution there, that was one of the first meetings I had with any director in Tipperary County Council, along with Cllr O’Heney, and we had to fight that case but we’re delighted to get some response from it, it will be brilliant.

"I also think there should be more of those developments in little villages like Hollyford, but that’s probably for further meetings,” concluded Cllr Browne.

In a statement released by the Hollyford Community Council online, the group said that they are glad to confirm that they have reached a satisfactory conclusion in relation to their discussions with Tipperary County Council regarding the site.

“The county council housing section are going to build three three-bedroom houses and two single-bedroom houses on the site. The county council roads department will retain a small portion of the site for their own use.

"The Community Council will keep in touch with Tipperary County Council to monitor progress in relation to the above. The Hollyford Community Council would like to thank everyone who helped in any way.

"We would like to thank especially Councillor Liam Browne, Councillor John O’Heney, Jackie Cahill TD and Michael Lowry TD who were very helpful to us,” the group said.
