Students organise three-day Tír na nÓg youth festival which will take place in Tipperary

A three-day festival of fun – organised for young people and by young people at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) – is to take place in Clonmel, County Tipperary.

Following its successful first year as a one-day event, the Tír na nÓg Youth Festival has expanded into a three-day extravaganza, running from Thursday, September 25th, to Saturday, September 27th.

Centred around the TUS Clonmel campus, the festival has been organised with the support of the Sláintecare Healthy Communities programme via Tipperary County Council.

The festival, which is targeted at those age 14 to 24, aims to provide free craft and creative activities for young people, helping them to unleash their creativity while also enhancing positive wellbeing.

Thursday, September 25 (11am–4pm)

A fun and crafty day at the TUS Clonmel campus with the return of the petting farm and a nerf war game.

New activities: lino printing, sticker making, badge making.

Street games and a mindfulness session.

An all-day animation film screening featuring the work of TUS students. Watch a specially selected showreel of animation shorts. Free candyfloss and popcorn will be available.

Visitors can also check out progress on the new outdoor mural developed.

A brand new initiative: Storyslam (2–4pm), where young people in recovery will share their experiences through short stories.

Friday, September 26

1pm: Launch of a visual art and mixed media exhibition at the Main Guard, Clonmel.

Entitled Scrying: Water as the Wellspring of Creativity, the exhibition is the result of an international collaboration between Durham College (Canada) and TUS.

The artworks, inspired by Oshawa Creek and St Patrick's Well, Clonmel, will be on display from Wednesday, September 24, to

A day of free creativity and crafts at Kickham Plaza, Clonmel.

TUS students will work alongside and support Clonmel Applefest, hosting activities such as drawing skills, badge making, collage, bracelet making, and more.

Tír na nÓg Festival Coordinator Agata Obolevica, a TUS student, said: “Our aim is to provide the community with a space to explore their creativity, to relax, and to engage with one another. Whether you're an experienced artist or someone who's never drawn before, we hope you enjoy the festival and try out a variety of different activities.”

Catriona Crowe, Sláintecare Healthy Communities Local Development Officer, added: "Sláintecare Healthy Communities Clonmel is delighted to support the Tír na nÓg Festival again this year. It’s inspiring to see young people leading the way in creating such a vibrant, creative and inclusive space for their peers.
