A local councillor in Tipperary has welcomed the news today that €30,000 will go towards building a footpath to link a local GAA club in Tipperary to a nearby village.

The €30,000 funding for the footpath is part of a wider investment in Tipperary’s roads, with almost €58 million earmarked this year for maintenance and repair of national roads in the county.

"I’m delighted to welcome confirmation of €30,000 in funding to progress the development of a footpath linking the GAA grounds and playground with Clonoulty village.

"This project is firmly on my agenda and, following my representations and notice of motions, I have consistently advocated for this important piece of infrastructure to become a reality.

"While this funding is only a start, it will allow vital preparatory work to move ahead, including road realignment, new LED lighting and associated works, helping to shape the overall project.

"In addition, we received good news at the end of January, with confirmation of a further €6,000 in funding under the Active Travel Programme.

"This is particularly welcome, as previous applications under this scheme were unsuccessful. It’s encouraging to see progress now being made.

"There is still work to do. I will continue to monitor progress closely and work with our area engineers to secure the additional funding required to fully deliver this project. Improving safety and connectivity in Clonoulty remains a key priority for me," he concluded.
