The Tipperary sprint star was forced to pull up in visible discomfort during Saturday's final at Morton Stadium, casting doubt over her participation in the European Championships in Birmingham in just two weeks.

Sharlene Mawdsley pulled up injured in Saturday's national 200m final, a worrying blow for the Tipperary sprinter just a few weeks out from the European Championships.

Mawdsley lined up alongside Rhasidat Adeleke for the final, a mouthwatering proposition as the two faces of Irish sprinting went head-to-head for national glory. Mawdsley was defending her national title, while Adeleke was chasing European Championship qualification.

27-year-old Mawdsley has been in electric form this year, repeatedly bettering her 400m PB over the opening months of the season, and qualified for the national 200m final with a time of 23.50.

Just a few seconds into Saturday's 200m final, Mawdsley pulled up on the turn, quickly moving to the side of the track in visible discomfort. Even when Mawdsley eventually got to her feet and was helped off the track by staff at Morton Stadium, they continued to express concern.

Mawdsley looked in some discomfort, and there is a great fear for her chances of making the European Championships in Birmingham, which get underway in just two weeks.
