Loughmore Castleiney native recognised after breakthrough campaign which yielded four tries in 17 appearances for Munster

Loughmore Castleiney native Brian Gleeson has been named Young Player of the Year at the 2025/26 Munster Rugby awards following the most productive season of his senior career to date.

The 22-year-old received the accolade at the Munster Rugby awards ceremony at the Strand Hotel in Limerick after an impressive campaign which saw him score four tries in 17 appearances.

Gleeson came through the ranks with Thurles RFC and Rockwell College before progressing into the professional game, and has continued to establish himself as an important member of the Munster senior squad. The back-row forward enjoyed his most productive season to date in 2025/26, making 17 appearances and crossing for four tries during an impressive campaign.

His standout performances during the early stages of the season also earned him a first call-up to the Ireland senior squad in October 2025, although injury ultimately prevented him from joining up with the squad.

Despite that setback, Gleeson continued his upward trajectory with Munster and his performances across the campaign have now been recognised with the Young Player of the Year award.
