Tipperary teacher retires after 40 years service

The County Tipperary community of Rosegreen celebrated Catherine Moloney’s retirement recently.

Catherine gave 40 years of service to the Department of Education and spent 39 of those years teaching at St. Thomas the Apostle National School, Rosegreen.

Mass was celebrated by Fr. Enda Brady, Monseigneur Ryan, Fr. Tom Hearne and Fr. Jim Purcell. The children from the school led the mass with their contributions of song and verse.

This was followed by a reception in the community hall where presentations were made on behalf of the school’s board of management, the parents association and Rosegreen Players Drama Group of which Catherine is an active member.

Catherine was described as being kind and gentle, fair and firm, and a teacher who always inspired confidence in the children in her care.  Catherine spoke on the night of her time at St. Thomas the Apostle National School, the many changes she has seen and the great sense of positivity, friendship, professionalism and welcome that is ever present at the school.

All wished Catherine a healthy, happy and adventurous retirement.
