A fundraiser has been set up for Tipperary Town natives after a "freak" house fire saw them "lose everything". 

Cllr John O'Heney says Margaret and Noel Bolster, Ballysimon, Limerick have "lost everything they own in a freak house fire that broke out on the morning of Friday, January 9.

"They were caring for their four-month-old granddaughter at the time and heroically risked their own lives to save her. Thankfully after a short spell in hospital, all three are recovering well.

"However the fire destroyed their home and they are faced with the mammoth task of rebuilding. Margaret and Noel are both Tipp town natives.

"Noel is from Redmond Square, and Margaret is a Withero from Blind Street.

"Many people in town will know them and be shocked to hear this dreadful news. Without a doubt, there are so many people who would like the opportunity to donate.

"If people are in a position to donate, it would be so very much appreciated. If you can't donate, then please circulate the link, it will help just as much."

A total of €49,840 has so far been raised out of a goal of €150,000.
