Ross Alexander, Coolquill AC, who won bronze in the 10k walk at the National Senior Championships at the Morton Stadium in Santry, Dublin
Ross Alexander spent days and weeks deliberating as to whether he would enter the National Senior 10k Track Race Walk held at Morton Stadium in Santry, Dublin.
Ross went into this senior event with no expectations, other than his own personal ambition to improve, and improve he did with great distinction.
Ross followed the race plan from the gun, and wasn’t distracted by the pace set by Ireland’s current best race walker David Kenny.

Kenny was setting his own lifetime personal best in the race, which gives an idea of the standard being set.
Going into this race, Ross would have settled for a personal best and to go home happy and content with a good day’s work.
But to finish with a senior bronze medal in 53 minutes 05:16 seconds and knocking almost half a minute off his previous best performance at an age over 45 is something to be really proud of.

Ross is a dedicated father of four young children who runs his successful business and manages to fit in his training around his busy family lifestyle.
He is a real inspiration to those who believe that anything is possible with a little application and effort.
J&N coaching are delighted to see Ross having such success and have some small input into his training.
However, it is down to the pure determination, dedication and love of the sport of race walking that keeps this proud Tipperary man from the small but distinguished club Coolquill AC striving for more success.
Ross epitomises all that is great about masters’ athletics in Ireland and he remains determined to achieve even more in the sport.
We applaud his pure enthusiasm and congratulate the National Senior bronze medal winner.
