Inchicore Ledwidge Society is in the 27th year of running a competition for the Francis Ledwidge poetry Award was won by a Cahir author.
Named in honor of the famous Irish war poet and soldier Francis Ledwidge who wrote Poet of the Blackbirds; The Francis Ledwidge Poetry Award seeks to support Irish poets both financially and creatively and is proud to continue the tradition in 2025.

Last week it was announced that Cahir author and poet Margaret Galvin was the winner of the Award for 2025 with her poem 'Crows', Glen Wilson (NI) came second with The Raven and the Road Mender and Mary Jo Gibbons’ poem Tentative Ceasefire came third and all were presented with their Awards at the annual awards ceremony which took place in McDowell’s in Inchicore, Dublin last week.

Margaret Galvin released her sixth collection of poetry and prose Our House, Delirious in 2023 at a crowded launch in Cahir, so this is a well deserved award for Margaret. Congratulations Margaret from all your friends and fans in Cahir!
