TD Mattie McGrath is worried that trade in Clonmel is suffering due to the issue of antisocial behaviour in the town.

Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has called for urgent action to be taken to address antisocial behaviour issues in Clonmel town.

The TD asked for a task force to be set up in the town during Thursday's Dáil sitting.

"Clonmel has been left to deteriorate in recent years. Last year Clonmel had the highest vacancy rates in Tipperary at 18.5%. The entire market place is boarded up and many retail units in the town have been left to decay.

"I've discussed this with the Taoiseach and last week saw the closure of New Look, located on the main street of Clonmel.

"Many of the remaining businesses are getting no supports and instead are getting more and more charges. Retailers are struggling.

"Antisocial behaviour issues also mean that people are avoiding the town centre.

"I'm asking for a task force to be formed to deal with the huge addiction issues, the town needs one now."

The TD also mentioned last weeks meeting regarding substance abuse issues which was held in Clonmel, noting that business owners in the town are concerned about this issue.
