Carrick-on-Suir GAA club's coffee morning raised over €17,000 for cancer charity

Carrick Swan GAA Club’s Breast Cancer Awareness coffee morning was attended by hundreds of people whose generosity has resulted in the collection of €17,015 for Breast Cancer Ireland.

The charity event in Swan Club’s Juvenile Hall on Saturday, October 4 from 9.30am to 1.30pm featured a massive spread of delicious home baking and refreshments supplied by club members, supporters and local people and businesses.

The hall was festooned in pink balloons and decorations there was face painting for children. a bumper raffle with 90 prizes and ten door prizes,

Pink roses were presented to about 30 breast cancer survivors. Among them were members of the Clonmel based Suir Dragon Paddlers rowing group.

Carrick Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr David Dunne and Independent TD Mattie McGrath were among the estimated 1,200 attendance.

Swan Club PRO Elaine O’Neill said the Club was delighted with the local community’s huge support for the fundraiser. “It was massive, The crowds didn’t stop coming for the four hours the coffee morning took place.”

She paid tribute to the team of over 20 volunteers coordinated by Mary Barrett who organised the event and all the local people and businesses who supported the fundraiser from making donations to supplying food, decorations and prizes.

The Swan Club will present the coffee morning’s €17,015 proceeds to Breast Cancer Ireland this Saturday, October 18.
