A senior Tipperary County Council engineer has given a commitment to ensure gullies on Carrick-on-Suir's Dillon Bridge were kept clear of debris over the winter to prevent a build up of water on its busy roadway.

District Engineer Michael Scully gave the commitment at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District's monthly meeting after Cllr Bourke called for the bridge's gullies to be cleared of all debris regularly to prevent a build up of surface water on the bridge’s roadway.

“There is only a small outlet going from these gullies and some are blocked at the moment.

“During heavy rain the water is lodging on to the road. It’s a busy bridge for pedestrians and they are being splashed by traffic after heavy rain.”

Mr Scully said he would make sure the council kept on top of keeping gullies clear, particularly around Dillon Bridge and other “hot spot” areas in the town.
