New golf shop to open in Cashel as Dundrum Golf Club closure fallout continues

Move offers hope for golfers weeks after sudden shutdown of popular club and leisure facilities

New golf shop to open in Cashel as Dundrum Golf Club closure fallout continues

The manager of the recently closed Dundrum Golf Course is set to begin a new chapter with the opening of a golf shop in Cashel town centre tomorrow.

Marian O’Riordan, who had overseen operations at the Dundrum House Hotel golf course, was forced to shut down suddenly after Brogan Capital Ventures (BCV) – the company managing the overall complex – ceased trading on August 25. The closure included the golf course, shop, bar, restaurant, and leisure centre, resulting in the loss of 48 jobs.

Ms O’Riordan described the past number of weeks as “extremely difficult” for members, staff, and the wider golf community. She insisted the club remained viable, highlighting its strong membership base and the excellent condition of the course.

Concerns have also been raised over membership payments accepted up to the date of closure, which has left her personally and financially exposed as a self-employed professional.

She also praised the ongoing work of the greenkeeping team who continue to maintain the Dundrum course despite the uncertainty.

The new golf shop will open tomorrow in the Noel Fahy premises in Cashel. While opening hours have yet to be confirmed, Ms O’Riordan said her immediate priority is to honour member credits, settle outstanding accounts, and bring the Dundrum chapter to a close “with integrity.”

Meanwhile, the future of the Dundrum complex remains unclear. A number of legal disputes are ongoing, including a Judicial Review into the Planning Exemption Certificate (Section 5) for the proposed IPAS centre. BCV was granted a two-week postponement of the review, originally scheduled for September 29, following recent changes in its directors and legal team.

Steelworks Limited, the parent company of BCV, is now in liquidation, adding further uncertainty to the fate of the property.
