Students at Cashel Community School go gold for a great cause

September is Childhood and Adolescent Cancer Awareness Month. The charity Childhood Cancer Ireland was founded and is led by parents of children currently undergoing treatment.

They provide vital supports and services to families impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

Childhood Cancer Ireland’s psychosocial services provide practical, emotional, and psychological support to all family members following a diagnosis of childhood cancer including play therapy.

Last month, Cashel Community School marked Childhood Cancer Week. The week was TY-led, and activities included bake sales, an ice cream day, a TY awareness walk, and a CCS Go Gold Day.

These activities fostered awareness, creativity, and empathy, while raising vital funds for children facing a cancer diagnosis.

The Rock of Cashel lit up gold during the month, the symbolic colour of the campaign, representing that the children are truly more precious than gold.

As a school community, CCS became aware of Childhood Cancer Ireland as this amazing charity has supported a staff member’s family whose son has being undergoing treatment for childhood cancer.

The school community not only raised awareness of childhood and adolescent cancer, but more importantly raised vital funds for the essential practical and emotional supports and services this charity provides to children and their families impacted by such a devastating diagnosis.

CCS has found the local response to their efforts to be overwhelmingly positive.
