Nenagh Arts Centre buzzed with anticipation on the evening of Thursday, September 25, as the 22nd Dromineer Nenagh Literary Festival was formally launched.

Among those in attendance were Trish Taylor Thompson, recently appointed director of Nenagh Arts Centre; Melanie Scott, Tipperary Arts Officer; and Alan Kelly, Labour Party spokesperson on Health, Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, who recalled attending the inaugural festival decades ago.

The festival’s organising team was also on hand, including director Geraldine McNulty, secretary Catherine Lahiff, treasurer Carol Dunne, and assistant treasurer Geraldine Cronin, alongside committee members Virginia O’Dowd, Margaret Folan, Ellen Whelan, and Kate O’Meara.

Brendan Keogh of the North Tipperary Artist Collective opened the evening with remarks. The collective’s members also launched an exhibition, Éist: Artwork Inspired by Sound, which will remain on display until the end of October.

Festival director Geraldine McNulty emphasised the eclectic nature of the programme, which spans genres from poetry and cookery to crime fiction, environmental writing, drama, and folklore. Two fixtures in particular—the annual children’s poetry competition and the event dedicated to debut authors—highlight the festival’s commitment to nurturing new talent.

Ms McNulty also acknowledged the enduring support from Tipperary County Council, the Arts Council, local businesses, and schools, which she described as “vital to the festival’s ongoing success.”

The evening concluded with readings from Rosemary Joyce, District Administrator of Nenagh Municipal District, who shared three moving poems from her debut collection, Whispers from the Shadows, now in its second printing.

The festival runs from October 9-12. Full details and ticket information are available at www.DNLF.ie
