Dark comedy to be performed at a Tipperary venue for the first time

What a first date looks like!

A  couple living near Ballyporeen are behind a dark comedy called Taboo that will be on at the Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Friday November 29.

Dylan Kennedy and Jenny Fennessy  both worked as actors in London for ten years. They worked  at the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Donmar Warehouse, National Theatre of Scotland, The Finborough and the Barbican.

They  moved home to Ireland in 2018 and set up Red ‘n Blue Theatre Company. Their debut production, Lovesong sold out 16 performances across Cork, Waterford and Dublin. It was nominated for 5 Waterford News and Star Green Room awards, including Outstanding Event of the Year, Best Play, Best Director and won awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Their second production, The Flags was nominated for a further 6 Waterford News and Star Green Room awards and won Best Play of the Year 2022, Best Set and Best Supporting Actress.

We performed TABOO in Cork last year. The Echo newspaper described ‘Taboo’ as “Hilarious with more twists and turns than the Ring of Kerry”, “Brilliant” and “Should not be missed”.

Taboo is a dark comedy about two people who meet in Tesco and go on a date. Lily cooks a three-course meal. Tom brings flowers and wine. On the surface, everything seems fine but in an attempt to present the best versions of themselves, the date starts to go horribly wrong. In the modern world, first dates don’t always go to plan. There are certain things you shouldn’t do on a first date. And then there are certain things you shouldn’t do at all.

There will be two performances on the day, at 2pm and at   8pm on November 29.
