Maurice Walsh receiving his award from Dr Murch
The huge contribution made by Maurice Walsh to Comhaltas was recognised at the Tipperary County Fleadh.
At an awards night during the Tipperary County Fleadh held in Clonmel Maurice Walsh was given a Gradam Seirohise award by Dr Labhrás Ó Murchú,Director General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

Maurice was born just outside Tralee into a musical family. His parents played the accordion, inspiring him to pursue Irish music. At aged 9, he began playing a Hohner Black dot and later a Paolo Soprani in the early Irish music session scene. He passed on the music to his children and later to his grandchildren.

Approximately 40 years ago, as a hobby, he started repairing and tuning accordions for himself, his friends and later for all ages and skill levels of players. Over the years ,he has supported and encouraged Irish music at every opportunity and helped musicians where and when he could along the way.
