There are no plans to instal additional speed ramps at Bianconi Drive in Clonmel.

Cllr John FitzGerald had requested that speed ramps would be installed, and other measures examined to reduce speed within Bianconi Drive, to prevent a serious accident from occurring.

However, in a written reply to a meeting of Clonmel Borough District, District Engineer Gillian Flynn stated that there are regular speed ramps within the section of Bianconi Drive between the Cashel Road and Heywood Road.

She said that the last speed survey carried out in Bianconi Drive recorded an average speed of 30 kilometres per hour, and 85% speed of 36 kilometres per hour.

“Based on this information we do not intend to instal additional ramps. Speeding and the enforcement of the speed limits is a matter for An Garda Síochána,” Ms Flynn’s report added.

At the same Borough District meeting, the Mayor, Pat English, had requested that the council would look at providing speed ramps or other speed-reducing measures on the Heywood Road in Clonmel, adjacent to Ard Aoibhinn and Droimeala housing schemes.

He said the traffic on the road is very dangerous for the residents as they tried to drive out of these estates.

In a reply to the meeting, Gillian Flynn stated that a raised table had been installed at the entrance to the modular housing estate on the Heywood Road, which is situated between Ard Aoibhinn and Droimeala.

A speed ramp had also been installed north of Ard Aoibhinn by the contractor working on this development.
