Twenty pupils in Tipperary school didn't miss a day during school year

St Oliver Plunkett’s National School, Clonmel recently celebrated its annual Attendance Awards.

The school has been celebrating such an event for the past number of years.

The awards ceremony is always a highly anticipated event in the school calendar. Teachers and pupils alike eagerly await the list of award winners and the presentation of medals and trophies. Pupils who have achieved outstanding attendance in the previous school year are honoured.

Over the last school year, an amazing 20 pupils managed to achieve full attendance. Also, a large number of students were presented with medals for only missing up to three days in a full school year. Well done everyone!

Valerie Slattery, Principal of St Oliver’s, speaking to the whole school assembly, outlined the importance of good attendance and acknowledged the effort and improvement across the school.

Special guest Lorna Bermingham, the school’s Education and Welfare Officer, was welcomed to officiate over the awards ceremony. The role of Education Welfare Officer is to liaise with schools and parents and to support attendance at school. 

Lorna highlighted to children the importance of excellence attendance and was very impressed with the school’s Attendance Drive.

The Attendance Drive, run by Home School Liaison teacher, Mrs Pyke, is always a favourite for pupils, and the element of competition between classes adds further fun and commitment.

Attendance levels are excellent - well done to all the St Oliver’s school’s wonderful students.
