Funding for outdoor recreation projects in Tipperary welcomed by Tipperary TD

Tipperary South TD Mattie McGrath has warmly welcomed the announcement of over €934,000 in funding for outdoor recreation projects across Tipperary under Measure 2 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

Deputy McGrath said the investment will provide a major boost to local communities, tourism, and the promotion of healthy outdoor activity across the county.

“I am delighted to see such significant funding coming to Tipperary under the ORIS programme. Projects like the upgrade of the Bay Lough Access Walkway, the widening and signage improvements along the Clonmel to Carrick-on-Suir Blueway, and the enhancement of the Monaincha Discovery Trail are exactly the kind of initiatives that strengthen our local communities, support tourism, and showcase the natural beauty of our county,” Deputy McGrath said.

The Bay Lough project, which receives €153,000, will upgrade one of the county’s most scenic and popular walking routes, while €200,000 has been allocated for improvements along the Suir Blueway — enhancing accessibility, safety, and enjoyment for walkers and cyclists alike.

“These works will not only improve access and infrastructure for local users but will also help attract visitors from across Ireland and beyond. Outdoor recreation is a vital part of our rural economy, and continued investment like this will ensure Tipperary remains a leading destination for walking, cycling, and nature-based tourism,” Deputy McGrath added.

Deputy McGrath also acknowledged the work of Tipperary County Council and community groups who prepared and submitted the funding applications: “This funding is a credit to the dedicated council staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to maintain and develop these wonderful amenities. Their commitment ensures our trails and walkways remain safe, accessible, and sustainable for years to come.”
