Tipperary gardaí have issued an incredible tip for the public on how to deal with "bogus callers".

Gardaí met Thurles shoppers recently to raise awareness of bogus callers and how to deal with them.

Gardaí added: "If someone comes to your front door - first go to your back door and lock it.

"Then go to your front window and if you don’t recognise them and they are selling or offering a product/service:

"Hand out one of our bogus calling cards and tell them to write their details on them and YOU will contact them when YOU want their service.

"Tell them to post the card back through your letterbox.

"Bogus calling cards are available through your Community Policing Unit at your Garda Station."
