A Tipperary duo has been granted planning permission to refurbish an old schoolhouse to build a family home.
Geoff Power and Andrea Carter made the application to Tipperary County Council for the development at The Old Schoolhouse, Sopwell, Cloughjordan.
The project includes the refurbishment and alteration to the Old Schoolhouse into a single family, two-bedroom home including the demolition of a modern poorly built single storey rear extension, repair and renewal of slate roof and existing barge boards and rainwater goods, the glazed enclosure of the existing open porch to the front.
The application also seeks permission for the modification of two high-level rear window openings by dropping their sill level to the ground level in order to provide two doors onto a rear terrace, levelling of internal floors, crack repairs, new internal breathable insulation to all external walls.
Other works include: thermal upgrade works to internal timber floors and refurbishment of existing floors, restoration of existing timber casement windows and doors, repair works to existing tiled roof and chimneys, installation of secondary glazing to the inner side of retained historic windows, renewal of building services installation of photovoltaic panels on the rear slope of the main roof, the refurbishment and repair of both east and west outbuildings to the rear, alteration of the existing side vehicular entrance, the provision of a graveled car parking area, installation of a new proprietary wastewater treatment system, landscaping and sundry other minor works.
The council approved the application and attached six conditions to its decision.
