A woman has been confirmed as dead, with a man arrested, following a serious incident in Laois.
The body of a woman remains tonight at the scene of her death, in an apartment block in Mountmellick.
Gardaí are on duty preserving the scene overnight at College Avenue, pending the arrival of the State Pathologist on Thursday for an examination.
A man has been arrested, and is being detained at Portlaoise Garda Station for questioning.
The Gardaí request anyone with any information to please contact them.
The emergency services had been alerted to an incident around 5pm this evening, by a concerned member of the public.
