The flair and scoring ability of the Thurles CBS forward division will have gotten a lot of plaudits over the last six months in this team’s run to the Croke Cup final, but the defensive solidity has been a badly needed asset in several games this year, and Evan Morris has been unheralded in many games.

The Holycross Ballycahill player has been outstanding all year, and he was a big reason that the team management to get their hands on the Harty Cup title after a Player of the Match performance against St Flannan’s in Mallow.

He’s got all the raw materials of the modern defender. Touch tight, good hands, pace, strength, the ability to carry the ball and he has even fired over some fine long range points throughout the course of the year.

He will need to be at his best again this time around, coming up against a player in form in Ciarán Leen who has been the leading scoring threat for Athenry, and with Aaron Niland back in contention, hs best will be required.
