Robbie Ryan has had a few months to remember. The Holycross Ballycahill man has won countless titles at club level in the last six months, and as captain of this Thurles CBS team, his name will not be soon forgotten as he tried to take in the achievement in the aftermath of the victory on Monday.

“I can’t put it into words how amazing I feel and how every single member of the team feels,” Ryan said with a massive smile on his face.
“We thought we were dead in the water and everyone else probably thought that too. We managed to rattle off a few scores there and after that, we knew we were still in with a shout of winning. We kept believing in the system. We didn’t push up and we didn’t start lumping the ball.
“We kept playing the way we know and kept playing the inside line, popping over the points and we just never forced it and that’s what won it for us in the end.
“When we got it back to three points we knew we were well in with a shout. We had the crowd on our side then and everyone started firing and we just managed to push on home from there. It was unbelievable”, he added.
The whole journey for Ryan has come to the perfect ending as this marked his final game in a Thurles CBS journey and after plenty of heartache and nearly stories in games gone by over the last three years at this level for him, he couldn’t heap enough praise on the school for helping him realise his and his teammates dreams.
“It’s been absolutely amazing. As I’ve said it so many times before, the school has been unbelievable to me and to every single member of the panel.

“I said it in the speech that we’re were just delighted as a team to be able to do something like this for the school because the school has put so much into all of us since we were 13 or 14-year-olds and we are just so happy to be able to repay all the teachers and all work that has been put into us.
“I’m just so honoured to be able to lead that team that have so many of my best friends since the age of three or four. It’s such a surreal moment for me and I’m just delighted that I was able to lead this team.” he finished.
