Funding sought for safety measures at dangerous road in south Tipperary

Funding has been sought to erect a barrier and vehicle-activated warning signs at the bend in Rathronan between the crossroads and the Halfway House pub, a meeting of Clonmel Borough District has been told.

In his report to the meeting, District Engineer Roger Noonan said that the council was waiting to hear back from the Department of Transport about this request.

Works carried out to date included the relining of the road, the addition of some more “slow” road markings, the replacement of damaged cat’s eyes and the replacement of the old chevron boards to the correct standard.

Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said there were ongoing accidents at this location, the most recent of which had occurred over Christmas.

Given the increased frequency of accidents at this location, she believed that these safety works needed to be expedited.
