Nenagh Court: 'Act of stupidity' results in 'expensive trip to the shops' for shoplifter
A man who stole a quantity of assorted groceries from the Tesco store in Nenagh had engaged in an act of “pure stupidity”, Judge Alan Mitchell was told at Nenagh District Court.
The court was told that Rory Hogan, 45, of 20 Hartigan Villas, Moyross, Limerick, walked out of the store with €25.98 worth of groceries on September 15, 2022, without making any attempt to pay.
He was detained outside and later arrested and conveyed to Nenagh Garda Station, where he was charged in relation to the incident.
The groceries were recovered.
The court heard that Mr Hogan had 10 previous convictions, but none related to theft.
Solicitor Elizabeth McKeever said her client told her he had lost his wallet on the date and went into the store and took the items.
It was an act of “pure stupidity,” she said.
Judge Mitchell said he would make it an expensive shopping trip for Mr Hogan and imposed a fine of €100.
