ALERT: Credit Union in Tipperary issues scam warning to members over fake text
Take note!
Clonmel Credit Union has issued a warning to its thousands of members over a scam text message doing the rounds.
The Credit Union has warned that “some people have received a text purporting to be from ‘your Credit Union’”.
In an email to members and in posts on social media, they said: “We’ve been made aware of a scam text, purporting to be from ‘Credit Union’, claiming that accounts have been ‘placed on hold’ and asking the recipient to click a link (to a cloned Credit Union website) to verify their account.”
“If you get such a text DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK,” they warned.
In the missive to members, they added: “Clonmel Credit Union will NEVER ask you to click on a link and provide personal information.
“If you are in any doubt about any message you receive in relation to your credit union account, please contact Clonmel Credit Union directly on 052 61 25292.”
Here are some tips to protect your money:
• Emails or SMS messages claiming that your account is locked or blocked are fake.
• Messages that claim urgent action is required are generally fake.
• Never click on links in messages. Always contact the Clonmel Credit Union directly.
