Nenagh Courthouse: Pre-sentencing report sought on Tipperary man intoxicated in precincts of courthouse
A pre-sentencing probation report has been ordered by Nenagh District Court on a man who was “highly intoxicated” in the precincts of the courthouse.
Martin Hogan, 44, of 12 Dromin Road, Nenagh, and 73 Ballygraigue Court, Nenagh, pleaded to the offence on March 10, 2023.
Garda Tina O’Neill told Judge Elizabeth MacGrath that Mr Hogan had been observed falling against a wall in the precincts of the courthouse.
Mr Hogan also pleaded to threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Dromin Road on July 2, 2022.
The court heard that the gardaí had been called to a disturbance outside Mr Hogan’s mother’s home and he was found to be intoxicated.
He began calling the gardaí derogatory names.
The court heard Mr Hogan had 13 previous convictions and that these offences may trigger a suspended sentence from Nenagh Circuit Court.
Solicitor Johnny Spencer, for Mr Hogan, said that his client has “difficulties with alcohol” but had been making an effort to “fight his demons”.
He said Mr Hogan was engaging with social services and attending weekly AA meetings.
Judge MacGrath said that she would order a pre-sentencing probation report for July 14 as there were implications if the cases went back to the circuit court where Mr Hogan could be facing the imposition of an 18-month sentence.
