Boston Scientific to recruit its 400 new workers for Clonmel plant within two years

Recruitment has already started

Boston Scientific, Clonmel

Boston Scientific has already started recruiting to fill the more than 400 jobs the €80m investment in its Clonmel operation is creating and aims to fill the posts within two years.

The US multinational that manufactures medical devices in Clonmel, said it was hiring for “highly specialised” roles within production, engineering, quality, supply chain and R&D functions. According to the IDA, the plant currently employs 1,200 people.

The €80m investment is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland and will be spent on the continued expansion of the company’s medical technology manufacturing and research and development (R&D) capabilities.

Boston Scientific says the new investment will increase office and manufacturing space at the plant but they will be developed within the existing footprint of its premises. That means there will be no extra buildings required to accommodate the expansion.

The new investment will also be used to transition the entire site to source more than 90% of its energy needs from renewable sources. Boston Scientific said this was part of the company’s broader sustainability commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
Boston Scientific Vice President of Operations Conor Russell said the growth has been possible thanks to the company's talented workforce in Clonmel.
“Our team has worked to build strong manufacturing and R&D capabilities and also a high-performing and inclusive culture that we are proud to continue to foster as an employer of choice.”
Boston Scientific employees in Clonmel manufacture medical devices that support the treatment of more than 400,000 patients globally each year.
Products created in Clonmel help patients suffering from conditions such as heart disease, neurological disorders, kidney stones, and diseases of the pancreas, bile ducts and oesophagus.
IDA Ireland Executive Director Mary Buckley welcomed Boston Scientific’s investment in R&D and further manufacturing and said it will offer new opportunities and careers in Tipperary and the region.
County Tipperary Chamber CEO Michelle Aylward also welcomed the jobs announcement.
She said it was a “fantastic” day for Clonmel and county Tipperary. She described the investment and number of jobs being created as “phenomenal” and predicted the knock on impact on the local economy will be “tremendous”.
