The Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival is hosting a family fun afternoon and craft fair at the Swan Club Juvenile Hall and Fairgreen Car Park in the town centre this Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
It will be one of the highlights of the packed programme of community events taking place for the festival, which opens on Wednesday, May 31 and continues until next Monday, June 5.
The family fun afternoon will have something for everyone including international traditional crafts, face painting, the Mad Hatter Magic Show, the Nore Valley Park Pet Farm and the Street Theatre Ceili Band.
It will also feature fun ‘Trash to Treasure’ Eco-Arts activities with artist Margueritte Kent and colourful gel plate printing with artist Sonya Weston.
And there will be live music performed at the event by The River Orchard Ukulele group from Piltown.
The Clancy Festival is also running a wide range of other outdoor events and workshops.
Walks and Cycling
A Wild About Carrick Night Bat Walk takes place on Friday. Walkers will meet at the standing stones at Seán Healy Park at 10pm. The event is free.
It will be followed by a Heritage Walking Tour of Carrick with Teresa Moran starting from Carrick Heritage Centre at 10am on Saturday. The cost is €5.
A River Walk to Dove Hill along the Suir Blueway will take place on Sunday.
The walk, which is being run in association with Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club, departs from the Séan Healy Park standing stones at 9.30am. The €12 cost includes breakfast.
Meanwhile, a Wild About Carrick Guided Cycle, organised in association with Carrick Lions Club, starts from Ormond Castle on Monday, June 5 at 11.30am. It costs €5.
DR2 Dance event
Other Clancy Festival highlights include a performance showcase by members of the DR2 Dance Club at the Fairgreen Car Park on Saturday from 12.30pm to 2pm.
The DR2 Dance Club is based in Clonmel and Carrick and this will be the first times its dancers will perform at the Clancy Festival.
Try an Instrument
Music Generation Tipperary will host a free Try an Instrument session for children and young people up to 18 years old at the Presentation Primary School on Saturday from 12 to 2pm.
During this session, the Music Generation Tipperary team will have lots of instruments to try out including guitar, bass guitar, accordion, concertina, banjo, the uilleann pipes, and many more.
Brass Band
There will be an opportunity to enjoy more music on Saturday afternoon when Carrick Brass Band puts on a performance on the town’s Main Street at 3pm.
Meet the Clancy Family
And Clancy Brothers fans can meet members of the Clancy family at the Nano Nagle Centre Chapel from 2pm on Saturday.
It will be a chance to chat with members of the Clancy Family, browse memorabilia, share stories, tunes and laughter while hearing about the life and times of the world famous Paddy, Tom, Bobby and Liam Clancy.
Ein Plain Air Painting contest
On Sunday, artists will be painting pictures around the town’s landmarks and scenic sights for the Festival’s inaugural Ein Plein Air outdoor visual art competition, which runs from 10am to 4.30pm.
The competition is open to all levels of expertise. Artists must pre-register.
On the day of the event, participants can choose their own location from Ormond Castle to the Blueway, set up their easels, equipment and can paint throughout the day until entries are submitted back at the Castle for the judging process to commence.
Winner to be announced at 5.15pm.
Eco-Art Fashion Photo Shoot
Another artistic event on Sunday will be the Eco-Art Slow Fashion photo shoot with photographer Noreen Duggan that will showcase a collection of vintage clothing and accessories.
The event will focus on the creative reuse of clothing and will be a great way to get a taste of how to set up and take a photo shoot.
The workshop runs from 12 – 2pm. Numbers are limited and its for people aged 14 to 24.
Participants will meet at the Seán Healy Park standing stones.
Nagle Centre workshops
A number of other Clancy Festival workshops are taking place in the Nano Nagle Community Centre on Saturday, June 3 from 10am.
There is a Music & Games Workshop for children with music educator Niamh O’Donnell. During the workshop, children will learn new songs, experiment with various instruments, and engage in group singing activities and games that foster creativity and imagination.
A Creative Writing Taster workshop will be run by writer Lorna Grant while Marie Walsh and Jane Barton McLoughlin will host a two-hour The HeART of Songwriting! Workshop.
