Representatives of Uisce Éireann who attended a meeting with Clonmel Business Network. The meeting was chaired by the Mayor of Clonmel Cllr Richie Molloy.
Uisce Éireann said it welcomed the opportunity to meet with Clonmel businesses last Monday to discuss water supply issues in the town and outline ongoing plans to upgrade and enhance water infrastructure in the area.
The following statement was issued by the company following the meeting with members of the Clonmel Business Network.
"Our priority at all times is the provision of safe, secure drinking supplies and the protection of public health.
We are aware that there has been a large number of operational incidents in the town in recent months due to the age and poor conditions of some of the water infrastructure. We regret the disruption caused by these issues and have dedicated considerable efforts to addressing these challenges in the short, medium and long term through operational interventions and capital upgrades. We will also continue to provide regular updates to our customers and other stakeholders including elected representatives and business groups.
Addressing all these issues and ensuring that water services in Tipperary are fit for purpose into the future will require significant investment over many years. However we have a plan in place to achieve this and will continue to work with our local customers to deliver the best solutions.
Uisce Éireann is currently running a public consultation process on the Regional Water Resources Plan for the South East Region, which includes part of Tipperary. The plan sets out options for providing a more secure, reliable and sustainable water supply for 369,240 customers in the South East region over the next 25 years. The plan is available to view on the Uisce Eireann website and submissions can be made up to 3 October 2023.
There are a variety of channels through which customers can find information about their local water supply and get in touch with Uisce Éireann. To get localised updates, visit www.water.ie and enter your address or Eircode. Regular updates are also posted on social media on X (formerly Twitter) @IW_Care and Facebook. Uisce Éireann’s customer care helpline is also open 24/7 on 1800 278 278. Updates on planned outages and water restrictions such as Boil Water Notices are issued to all media in the area and to elected representatives for sharing across their channels." concluded the statement.
