Sustainable jewellery designer from Cashel, Gillian Gubbins, of GG Designs is delighted to represent Ireland at an international showcase of Irish crafters in Lyon on this Saturday.

Gillian, who has been in business for the last four years and is a creator of sustainable jewellery and shell art made from Irish mussel shells, reclaimed fabrics, leather offcuts from handbag manufacturers and Irish scallop shells, will display her range of jewellery at Place Bellecour on June 15.

Gillian was selected to represent Ireland from a list of applicants who submitted application forms to the Craft Council of Ireland earlier his year.

The Fêtes Consulaires showcase at Bellecour is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It is run by the consulate offices in Lyons.

The event has been organised for over twenty years by the City of Lyon, in partnership with consulates based in Lyon to celebrate Lyon’s international profile through the diversity and dynamism of its consulates and foreign communities.

The event takes place annually on Place Bellecour, the third largest square in France and the largest pedestrian square in Europe.

This year, in line with the hosting of the 47th edition of the World Skills Competition in Lyon in September, the theme of the Fêtes Consulaires is "arts, crafts and skills".

Gillian is one of four Irish craftspeople who will attend this event include watchmakers, glass designers and knitters of Aran sweaters.

Gillian the founder of GG Designs says “I am honoured to represent Ireland and Tipperary at this year's Fêtes Consulaire in Lyons.

"I am excited to showcase my designs alongside other Irish leading designers. I am passionate about sustainable business and the importance of using sustainable materials in each and every design. We see the impact of global warming on a daily basis, this is my way of giving customers a sustainable option that gives the customer a unique and stylish identity.

"I am so proud to showcase my product range, which shows that style and sustainability can work together hand in hand in modern day fashion”.
