Festivities kicked off in the Plaza, where local band FERNS entertained the crowd ahead of the parade. With lead vocals by Calum Laverty, Cameron Quirke on lead guitar, Sofia Bondarenko on rhythm guitar, Jack Nugent on bass, and Jack Dooley on drums, the band set a lively tone and got the crowd energized for the main event.
The parade set off from Cahir Road, making its way through Boherclough, along Main Street, and finishing on Friar Street. Large crowds lined the streets to enjoy a colourful display of marching bands, music, and community groups.
Local public representatives including Mattie McGrath, Seamus Healy, and Michael Murphy were in attendance, along with councillors Declan Burgess, Liam Browne, John Crosse, and Roger Kennedy, Cathaoirleach of the Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District.
A highlight of the parade was the presence of Marie Devitt of Rosegreen, recently named Cashel Person of the Year, who served as Grand Marshal and received a warm welcome from spectators along the route.
Councillor Declan Burgess also deserves special recognition for his role as master of ceremonies. His lively commentary kept the crowd engaged throughout the afternoon, introducing each group and ensuring every organisation received a warm and enthusiastic welcome.
Music played a central role in the celebrations, with visiting groups including the Clondalkin Youth Band and Finglas Concert and Marching Band travelling to Cashel to join local favourites such as the historic St Patrick's Brass Band Cashel, celebrating over 170 years, and the Dr Diarmuid O'Hurley Pipe Band, all of whom received warm applause from the crowd.
Local schools, clubs, and organisations were also well represented, highlighting the strong community spirit in the town. Participating groups included Cashel King Cormacs GAA Club, Tipperary Scouts, Cashel Rugby Club, and Cashel Tidy Towns, who proudly showcased their gold medal achievement.
The parade also celebrated individual accomplishments, with cheers for Kevin Buckley of Cashel Handball Club, recently crowned All-Ireland champion. Creative entertainment included a “Reeling in the Years” display from the Cashel Choral and Dramatic Society, celebrating 100 years of Irish radio.
Members of An Garda Síochána and volunteers from Order of Malta Ireland were on hand throughout the day, ensuring the celebrations ran safely and smoothly.
With perfect weather, vibrant music, and strong community participation, Cashel’s early St Patrick’s Day celebrations were a fantastic showcase of local pride and togetherness.
