Tipperary crafter to represent Ireland at international showcase at famous Place Bellecour

Gillian Gubbins, of GG Designs is delighted to represent Ireland at an international showcase of Irish crafters in Lyon on Saturday, June 15

Gillian Gubbins of GG Designs is delighted to represent Ireland at an international showcase of Irish crafters in Lyon on June 15. Gillian who has been in business for the last four year and is a creator of sustainable jewellery and shell art made from Irish mussel shells, reclaimed fabrics, leather offcuts from handbag manufacturers and Irish scallop shells will display her range of jewellery at Place Bellcour this Saturday, June 15.


Gillian was selected to represent Ireland from a list of applications who submitted application form to the Craft Council of Ireland earlier his year.


The Fêtes Consulaires showcase at Bellcour is celebrating it’s 20th year this year, It is run by the consulate offices in Lyons The event has been organised for over twenty years by the City of Lyon in partnership with Consulates based in Lyon to celebrate Lyon’s international profile, through the diversity and dynamism of its Consulates and foreign communities. The event takes place annually on place Bellecour, the third largest square in France and the largest pedestrian square in Europe.


This year, in line with the hosting of the 47th edition of the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon in September 2024, the theme of the Fêtes Consulaires is ‘arts, crafts and skills’.


Gillian is one of four Irish craftspeople who will attend this event include watchmakers, glass designers and knitters of Aran sweaters. Gillian the founder of GG Designs said “ I am honoured to represent Ireland and Tipperary at this years Fêtes Consulaire, in Lyons. I am excited to showcase my designs alongside other Irish leading designers. I passionate about sustainable business and the importance of using sustainable materials in each and every design. We see the impact of global warming on a daily basis, this is my way of giving customers a sustainable option which gives the customer unique and stylish identify. I am so proud to showcase my product range which shows that style and sustainability can work together hand in hand in modern day fashion”.
