Councillor Sean Ryan has this week raised the issue of the lack of salt bunkers throughout Tipperary.
The issue was raised at the recent meeting of the Thurles Municipal District of the Tipperary County Council.
The matter is of high importance, according to Cllr Ryan, following the freeze which occurred in the early weeks of January.
Cllr Ryan said he hoped something could be done about the matter, and that more salt bins could be spread out around the county, under the climate action plan, stating that if these periods of intense freezing are to reoccur, the council needs to be prepared to deal with it.
However, Cllr Ryan was informed that this was not a matter for the Environment and Climate action plan, and that they could do nothing about the matter.
The issue was later raised by Councillor Shane Lee, who echoed the statements made by Cllr Ryan.
The District Engineers informed Cllr Lee that they were not against the idea of expanding the number of salt bunkers throughout the county, however they informed him that the numbers are reviewed annually, and that they did not see it changing in the near future.
