Concerns raised about a number of near misses at school crossing in Tipperary

Concerns were raised during the recent council meeting held in Tipperary Town, about the issue of near misses outside a school crossing in Cashel.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Roger Kennedy addressed his safety concerns about the crossing to the meeting.

“We have a person manning the school crossing at the green, but in the last few weeks there have been a couple of near misses. One driver even said ‘I know I should have stopped when you were on the road but I didn’t know how to do it.’ There’s been a number of scary incidents.

"Whether we need markings, signage or more training, I don’t know. I’m asking if it can be looked at from an engineering point of view by yourselves.”

Cllr Kennedy clarified that the school crossing he was speaking about was across from the hospital in Cashel.

James Murray, who is the district’s senior engineer, said that the school crossing at the green had been looked at the previous Friday and maybe additional training is needed for the crossing warden.
