ePower has installed charge points for electric vehicles at four HRI owned racecourses - Leopardstown, Fairyhouse, Navan and Tipperary. The Irish firm was engaged by Horse Racing Ireland via public tender to install chargers at eight separate locations across the four venues.
Commenting on the latest development with Horse Racing Ireland, John O’Keeffe, CEO ePower said: “This contract is a further string to the bow of ePower as we continue to expand via public and private partnerships. It is great to see EV charging infrastructure being made available to racegoers who travel from all over the country for these meetings, and who will now have fast charging options at four of Ireland’s major racecourses.”
The new 22kW chargers will serve racegoers on race days, as well as other visitors and staff throughout the year. They are all remotely monitored by the ePower charger operations centre and are supported by a 24/7 helpdesk.

Victor Quinlan, Head of Environmental Sustainability at Horse Racing Ireland said: "It's important for us to cater for the needs of our racegoers so this scheme was a logical next step and aligns with our sustainability strategy objectives. We are delighted to partner with a great Irish company like ePower, to provide renewable transport solutions for racegoers, in response to an increased demand for such facilities for EV drivers in Ireland.”
The contract comes about following a very busy period for ePower; late last year the Irish company joined forces with all four of Dublin’s local authorities to install up to 200 fast chargers across the region. The company also won six of 17 government contracts to install EV chargers along the national road network through the Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) scheme.
In a private partnership last April, ePower teamed up with global renewable energy company Ørsted to provide electric vehicle charging solutions for its new onshore EV fleet in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
