Gardaí arrest teenager in connection with murder of Ian Walsh at his Tipperary home

Garda have arrested an adult male aged in his late teens as part of their investigation into the murder of 49-year-old Ian Walsh whose body was found at his Carrick-on-Suir home in the early hours of August 4. 

The teenager was arrested early today (Wednesday) and has been taken to a Garda station in the Tipperary/Clare Division for questioning.

He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows gardaí to hold suspects for up to 24 hours before they must be charged or released.

The body of Mr Walsh, who was originally from Kilcohan, Waterford, was discovered in his home at Ravenswood at Cregg Road, Carrick-on-Suir in the early hours of August bank holiday Monday. It's understood that he suffered stab wounds. 

The investigation into his death was upgraded to a murder investigation three days later after gardaí received the preliminary results of the post mortem examination carried out by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Yvonne McCarthy. 

Gardaí have conducted extensive door-to-door enquiries around Carrick-on-Suir and its hinterland as part of their investigation. 

Searches of the River Suir in Carrick-on-Suir have been carried out by officers in the Garda Water Unit and members of the Defence Forces. The river bank along the Suir Blueway in the town has also been searched as part of the murder investigation.

Gardaí have also been trawling through CCTV footage they have obtained from homes and business premises in the Cregg Road area and other parts of the town to help piece together Mr Walsh's last movements and find any clues that may assist their investigation.
