Gardaí have arrested a woman, aged in her 20s, after a man died following an assault in Carrick-on-Suir last night.
The woman is being detained at Clonmel Garda Station for questioning under Section 4 of the 1984 Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí say they are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of the man, aged in his late 40s, who was found unresponsive in a residential property at Callanan's Lane situated off Castle Street in Carrick-on-Suir town centre. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 11pm on Saturday night.
The body of the deceased man, who was aged in his late 40s, was removed from the scene at approximately 1.30pm today and a post mortem will now be carried out.
The property where the man was found was sealed off and preserved as gardaí conducted forensic examinations. Gardaí also conducted door-to-door enquiries in the Castle Street area.
In a statement issued this morning, the Garda Press Office said the Coroner has been notified of the man's death and the Garda Technical Bureau and Office of the State Pathologist have been requested to assist in the investigation.
“Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information on this incident to come forward.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Clonmel Garda Station on (052) 617 7640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station,” the statement added.
