The Tipperary Peace Convention has announced that nominations are now being accepted for the 2025 Tipperary International Peace Award, one of Ireland’s most distinguished honours. Established in 1984, the award has long stood as a symbol of Ireland’s commitment to the principles of global understanding and reconciliation. Over the decades, it has recognised some of the most influential figures in international affairs and human rights.
Among its previous recipients are Nelson Mandela, whose struggle against apartheid transformed South Africa; Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education activist and Nobel laureate; and former US President Bill Clinton, who played a central role in the Northern Ireland peace process.
Last year’s award was presented to Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in recognition of his efforts in regional diplomacy and mediation during a period of heightened global tensions.
Martin Quinn, Honorary Secretary of the Tipperary Peace Convention, said the award continues to serve as a reminder of the values that underpin peacebuilding at every level. “The Award highlights the power of compassion, justice, and understanding,” he said, “in a world still facing conflict and division.”
The Convention, based in Tipperary Town, has built an international reputation for promoting dialogue and recognising leadership that seeks to resolve conflict through non-violent means. Its ceremonies, typically held in Tipperary, have attracted global attention and participation from diplomats, community leaders, and human rights advocates alike.
Nominations for the 2025 award are open to individuals and organisations worldwide. The Peace Convention encourages submissions that reflect courage, integrity, and dedication to advancing the cause of peace. Further details on the nomination process are available from the Tipperary Peace Convention.
