Glenpatrick Spring Water has lodged a planning application with Tipperary County Council for a solar installation at Powerstown on the outskirts of the town. The proposed scheme covers 15.9 hectares on land situated behind Clonmel Racecourse.
The company is seeking permission for ten years to build the facility, which would operate for an expected lifespan of thirty five years. According to the application, Glenpatrick’s production plant is a heavy user of electricity. The solar development, with an anticipated output of about eight megawatts, is designed to offset the plant’s substantial energy costs in order to reinforce the business’s long term prospects and protect local jobs.
The council is scheduled to issue its decision by January 22.
