A quietly confident Irish drama film called 'Christy' is set to be screened at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles early next year, with audiences also offered the opportunity to hear directly from its young lead actor.

The film will be shown on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at €10 for general admission and €5 for Film Club members and are available through the box office. Film screenings are subject to confirmation or change.
The story centres on Christy, a vulnerable 17-year-old played by Danny Power, whose life is upended when he is forced to leave his foster home.
With limited options, he moves in with his estranged older brother Shane, portrayed by Diarmuid Noyes. Shane, once troubled, is now in steady employment and living with his partner, played by Emma Willis, as they care for their new baby.
As Christy settles into life in Knocknaheeny, he begins to feel a sense of belonging. He reconnects with wayward cousins, despite Shane’s firm warnings, forms new friendships and unexpectedly finds a role for himself within the local community. Yet the brothers cannot move forward without confronting the unresolved trauma of their shared past.
Directed by Brendan Canty, the 99-minute film was produced in Ireland in 2025. It has been praised for its understated realism and its sharply observed sense of place.
The film’s authenticity is such that it can feel as though it has been shaped in collaboration with the working-class community it portrays, including the rapping children of the Kabin Crew.
Following the screening at The Source Arts Centre, actor Danny Power, who plays ‘Christy’, will attend for a question-and-answer session with the audience.
