Tributes have been paid following the death of a newborn baby named Caelan Bannon, Cassestown, Thurles, Co. Tipperary
Baby Caelan Bannon, born on January 18, 2026, spent some precious moments in the arms of his Mammy and Daddy before dying peacefully.
He is “very deeply and lovingly regretted by his heartbroken parents Liam and Linda, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family,” according to his RIP.ie death notice.

Liam and Linda have also expressed “their depth of gratitude to the staff at the Maternity Unit, St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny for their great kindness and sensitivity shown to them at this sad time.”
The Mass of the Angels for Baby Caelan was celebrated in The Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Thursday, January 22 at 11 o’clock, with a private family burial to have taken place after.
Messages of sympathy and condolences have poured in from the local community and friends, reflecting the deep support for the family during this tragic loss.
One message read: “Liam Linda and your extended families, my deepest sympathies to you all at this very sad time, as you come to terms with the loss of your precious Caelan. I know your pain. My baby girl Emma died many years ago. Still deeply missed. Take care of yourselves in the weeks ahead, and let others take care of you too. ‘ní imithe uainn, ach imithe romhainn.’”
Another said: “My heartfelt condolences to you both. As a new mother, this story struck such a chord and deeply upset me. There are no words that can be said to make this any better. Your precious baby boy is now an Angel, too precious for this world who will watch over you forever and will always be with you. Go raibh síocháin na bhflaitheas ort, Caelan, a stór.”
Another person wrote: “Sincere sympathy to Liam and Linda on the loss of your beautiful little baby Caelan. Thinking of you at this sad and difficult time. Stay strong for one another and ye have a little angel watching over ye forevermore xx” and “Our deepest sympathy to Liam and Linda on the passing of your baby boy. Watch over your Mam and Dad, Caelan. Suaimhneas síoraí .”
In a final message of farewell, Liam and Linda said: “Until we meet again our darling little boy, Mam and Dad xxx.”
