BREAKING: Businesses in local Tipperary town forced to close due to ongoing water issue

Businesses in Tipperary Town and the surrounding areas have been forced to close today due to a major water outage in the area.

Uisce Éireann crews have been working to restore normal water supply to 5,000 homes and businesses since Thursday in Tipperary Town following an interruption at the town’s Cordangan Water Treatment Plant.

The company has said that expert water service crews were dispatched and are working to restore operations at the plant as quickly as possible.

It was hoped that water supplies in the area would be restored by today, however in a recent update, Uisce Éireann confirmed that water was not expected to be restored in the area until Saturday morning.

Alternative water supplies have been made available at St Michaels AFC and Tipperary Town Graveyard.

A boil water notice has also been enacted for all on the main Tipperary Town water supply until further notice.

Following consultation with the Health Service Executive, Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice to protect the health of customers supplied by the Cordangan Water Treatment Plant in Tipperary.

This notice, which affects customers in Tipperary Town and surrounding areas, is being issued due to high turbidity in the raw water which has affected the treatment process at Cordangan Water Treatment Plant.

Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty explained that customers are currently experiencing a disruption to their supply but when water returns, they must boil it before consumption.

“The network is currently replenishing, and all homes and businesses should have a full supply restored by morning but customers must then boil that water.

“We know how inconvenient a Boil Water Notice is for our customers, and I can assure them we are doing everything we can to resolve the issues and lift the notice.”

Businesses in the area have been majorly affected by the outage, with the French Quarter Café initially opening for takeaway only, before deciding to close for the remainder of the day, stating that they will update customers tomorrow.

The Carvery Restaurant also posted on social media to notify customers that they would not be opening today due to the issue.
