Nenagh Walking Club remembers its deceased members in verse

Nenagh Walking Club members

Members and friends of Nenagh Walking Club took part in a ramble taking in glimpses of history around Nenagh and stopping at Jacob's Well, Lisbunny, and St John's Well where deceased members and friends were remembered while club member Cyril recited the following composition which was very appropriate for the occasion.

Aonach ar Siúl salutes you

When we put on our walking gear,

and lace up our walking boots,

to come alone or with a friend,

to walk with Aonach ar siúl,

we know we’ll enjoy an active day,

in the company of those we meet,

whether we engage in carefree chat

or take time in silent retreat,

We are blessed to share with all you here,

good people in this walking club,

your smiles and laughter, stories and banter

yet an ear to our worry and care.

As we march along the tracks and trails.

we see the wonders of God’s work,

in the beauty of terrain in sunshine and rain,

by hillside or riverside or wood.

As we walk on the same path,

as you our comrades who have gone ahead,

who once walked and talked with us,

we cherish the impressions you made.

We are happy to remember you friends,

for we feel your presence in our soul.

So until we meet at this walk’s end

on the day we take our last stoll,

we will retrace your steps with ours,

and to your memory be ever true.

For we are your brothers and sisters in Aonach ar Siúl,

Who salute and celebrate you.
