Green Light for 28 new Tipperary town houses despite concerns over traffic

The green light for twenty eight new houses at Knockanrawley in Tipperary town was given at a meeting of Tipperary county council this morning.

A  recommendation from planning officials that the scheme proceed was approved by members of the council.

The meeting was told that consultation had taken place with residents of existing estates in the Knockanrawley area who expressed concern about increased traffic volumes due to  the new houses, increasing numbers attending Tipperary Gaelscoil and the development of the Circle of Friends centre in the area.

Planing officials told  the members that traffic calming measures would be implemented. A mini roundabout would be looked at concerning the entrance of the estate.

Cllr. Denis Leahy said everybody wanted to see the houses built. Residents wanted the houses to go ahead but there were concerns about traffic volumes. He would be happy if an inner relief road would be examined by the council in the future. He felt it was unfair to say that traffic volumes would not increase given projected school numbers, the activity at the circle  of Friends centre and the 28 new houses.

Cllr. Michael Fitzgerald said the residents were very reasonable in their discussions with the council and there should be no delay in proceeding with the houses. He believed the houses should go ahead and the situation with traffic could be monitored over time.

Cllr. John Crosse said residents had concerns about traffic volume.
