Fire rampages through hay barn in Tipperary

Three units from Tipperary Fire Services were involved in tackling a large fire on a farm in North Tipperary last week which engulfed a fully stocked hay barn. 

The incident happened at a farm in Clonmore on Thursday, August 30 with the alarm being raised around 4pm. 

Two units from Thurles Fire Services and one unit from Templemore attended the scene, bringing the blaze under control.

Fire Officer John Shinners confirmed to the Tipperary Star that a large number of hay and straw bales were destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still unknown however no injuries were reported from the incident.

Last Thursdays incident was the second significant hay barn fire reported in the county in a matter of days after a fire broke out on a farm in Crehana outside Carrick-on-Suir on Saturday 25. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of August 25, took units from Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel and Cahir as well as Portlaw and Dungarvan to bring the blaze under control.

Meanwhile Tipperary Fire Services were also called into action to tackle a devastating fire which broke out at the former Clonmel meat factory site on Sunday 26, August. The alarm was raised at around 6pm on Sunday evening with units from Clonmel, Cahir and Carrick-on-Suir, along with an hydraulic lift based at Clonmel Fire Station, attending the blaze.

An investigation was subsequently launched by gardai to establish the cause of the fire. Gardai have also appealed to anyone who may have information in relation to the fire to contact Clonmel Garda Station at (052) 6122222.
